This collection contains thirty-one 13x19 inch photographic prints of famous jazz musician gravesites. The photographs were used for the book Jazz Lives: Till We Shall Meet and Never Part . These prints are on archival paper and have the print date written on them. A few have inscriptions. The gravestones of musicians include Lester Young, Miles Davis, Bessie Smith, Fletcher Henderson, Sidney Bechet, Johnny Hodges, and Duke Ellington.
This collection contains sheet music, handwritten lyrics, and pages of a scrapbook. Also included are personal photographs, some items of memorabilia, and a history of WNEW booklet. The collection also includes a few large plaques and framed portraits.
The audio recordings include over forty audiocassettes of artists performances and jazz programs. There are a few personal audio discs and four open reels. Also included are three VHS tapes.
This collection contains research materials, articles, newspaper clippings, lectures, and jazz ephemera. There are research papers related to Charlie Parker, John Coltraine, and Benny Carter. Also included are school exams, lectures, transcriptions, photographs from a 1980s jazz event, sheet music, a book manuscript, and Benny Carter jazz posters.
This collection contains candid, performance, and professional photographs of European musicians. Some of the photographers, as well as many of the artists, have been identified.
This collection contains twelve audiocassettes of the radio documentary program on Coleman Hawkins.
This collection includes 272 metal vinyl molds, seventy-one open reel tapes, and four audio disks. The open reel tapes are primarily recordings of radio broadcasts by performers including Stan Kenton and Max Roach. The metal vinyl molds are mostly related to the activities of the Meritt Record Society (Valburn's record label) which was founded in 1979 and focused on reissues of early jazz releases.
