Scope and Contents

The Bonnie Lake audio recordings collection includes commercial and private recordings as well as one photograph. The recordings include discs and tape. This collection contains 6, 8, and 10 inch discs comprising forty-six 78 rpm records and fifty-four 45 rpm records. Tape recordings include thirty-two audiotape reels comprising 3, 5, and 10 1/2 inch reels and thirty-six cassette tapes. The discs encompass commercially released recordings of songs written and/or performed by Bonnie Lake. These include commercial recordings by Bonnie Lake and Her Beaus released on Decca and King Cole's Swingsters featuring Lake with Nat King Cole's trio. Also included are privately made recordings of Lake's mother Annette, herself a trained opera singer and vocal coach. The discs also include commercial recordings of Lake's favorite musicians performing material neither written nor associated with the singer. Artists on these discs include Louis Armstrong, Les Paul, Boyd Raeburn, Artie Shaw, Andy Kirk, Frank Sinatra, Harry James, Erskine Hawkins, and Charlie Barnett. Labels represented included Liberty Music Shop, MGM, D&S, Decca, Vocalion, Bluebird, Jewel, Sunstone, RCA Victor, and Columbia. Soundtrack, light classical, and popular recordings are also included. Cassette and open reels include copies of commercial recordings as well as rehearsal tapes and air checks. Commercial recordings include jazz and gospel music, comprising work by Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang, Quincy Jones, Mahaliah Jackson.
